Le projet NAOSS (Numérisation d’Antiquités Orientales : Sceaux et Scellements du musée du Louvre) ambitionne de numériser et documenter l’une des plus importantes collections de glyptique au monde. Conservée au département des Antiquités orientales du musée du Louvre (DAO), elle totalise près de 5500 sceaux-cylindres et cachets, 2100 scellements et 3000 empreintes modernes, répartis sur 7 millénaires (du 6e millénaire avant notre ère au 1er millénaire après notre ère) et cinq grands ensembles régionaux (Mésopotamie, Iran, Levant, Anatolie, Asie Centrale et Péninsule Arabique).

Pour la première fois, l’ensemble de cette collection glyptique sera rendue accessible tant à la communauté scientifique qu’au grand public, via une photothèque homogène et de haute qualité. Des outils d’analyse de pointe seront également proposés aux scientifiques et étudiants afin de faciliter leurs recherches. Au terme du projet, chaque objet sera ainsi documenté en haute définition et disponible sur le site des collections du musée du Louvre. Des planches à la mise en page préétablie intégreront mesures, photographies et orthophotographies. Les images RTI et modélisations 3D seront stockées et conservées au DAO, et rendues accessibles au même titre que les collections physiques.

The NAOSS project (Digitization of Near Eastern Antiquities: Seals and Sealings from the Louvre Museum) is dedicated to the digitization and documentation of one of the world's most significant glyptic collections. Housed in the Department of Near Eastern Antiquities (DAO) at the Louvre Museum, this collection encompasses nearly 5,500 cylinder seals, 2,100 stamp seals, and 3,000 modern impressions, spanning over seven millennia (from the 6th millennium BC to the 1st millennium AD) and covering five major regions: Mesopotamia, Iran, the Levant, Anatolia, Central Asia, and the Arabian Peninsula.

For the first time, the entire glyptic collection will be accessible to both the scientific community and the public through a uniform, high-quality photo library. Advanced analytical tools will also be available to researchers and students to support their studies. By the end of the project, each artifact will be fully documented in high definition and made available on the Louvre Museum's collections website. Pre-designed layout sheets will provide detailed information, including measurements, photographs and orthophotographs. RTI images and 3D models will be archived and preserved within the DAO and made accessible similarly to the physical collection.
